چکیده

Transforms reduce the distributions of surface-runoff and sediment-transport variables to nearexponential distributions typical of rainfall duration and intensity. Two transform parameters are determined from field measurements using either a graphical method or the method of moments. The transforms were tested on both small experimental plots and very large watersheds for the distributions of rainfall depth, runoff volume and discharge, sediment concentration and sediment discharge, as well as concentration and transport of c!temicals from surface runoff. As expected from deterministic relationships, the inverse transform exponent b for point rainfall is close to unity, increases to about 1.5 for runoff discharge, and varies between 1.5 and 3 for sediment and chemical transport. Several examples show that the transforms are useful to determine exceedance probability, flow and sediment duration curves, expected sediment load, and sediment-rating curves for poorly correlated concentration and discharge measurements. RAINFALL CHARACTERISTICS in which the rainfall duration parameter Al = lit. is the reciprocal of the average storm duration t,. The rainstorm intensity i has also been shown to be exponentially distributed. The probability density function, p(i), is Rainfall characteristics are important because they generate surface runoff and transport of sediment and chemicals. Pointrainfall precipitation can be described as a random time series of discrete storm events, each event having finite duration and constant intensity. Several stochastic models have been develped since Todorovic (1968) and Todorovic and Woolhiser (1974). In these models, rainfall precipitation has been described as a Poisson arrival process of rainfall events of duration t, and average rainfall intensity i. The storm duration t, has been found to be exponentially distributed. Considering a period where the average rainfall duration t, remains constant, the PDF of the storm duration pet,) is given by

Evaluating the Impact of Road Longitudinal Slope Angle in Forest Roads (Main Access and Main Roads) on Runoff and Soil Loss. (Case Study: Gardeshi District, Mazandaran)

Extended abstract 1- Introduction     Forest is a sustainable ecosystem with a high balance, and is characterized by non-eroded soils and sediment-free water. Forest roads serve as the largest construction activities and a component added to the forests which are required for the accessibility to forests and forest resources, logging, transportation, conservation, tourism, etc. However, these...

بررسی کارایی مدل RHEM در برآورد فرسایش (مطالعه موردی: حوزه آبخیز سنگانه- خراسان رضوی)

Computer simulation models are increasingly popular for predicting soil loss to quantify the processes of detachment, transport and deposition of eroded soils. To assess the effects of different management on soil erosion, selecting the best models and their validation a positive step is considered. In this research the Rangeland Hydrology and Erosion Model (RHEM) was evaluated by using soil er...

Understanding rill erosion rate in dry-wet condition

Rill erosion is considered to be the most important process affecting soils created by the concentrated flow of water. In this research to quantify sediment transport and runoff in natural rills, two rill experiments under dry and wet conditions were accomplished in November 2013 in the Golestan Dam. Filed experiments lead to a closer understanding of the dynamics and power of different soil er...

Investigation of phenological stages and pollutants’ type on the efficiency of vegetative buffer strips

Non-point source pollution is considered as a serious issue especially in the field of eutrophication for surface waters. Vegetative buffer strips include a specific plant being passed by flow before entering the waterways, so it causes to reduce runoff volume, deposited pesticides and other pollutants of the flow through infiltration, absorption and sediment deposition. The present study has b...
